Hi!
I'm Rob Galler and I have been a member of the St. Cloud community for more than twenty years. I have four children who have attended schools in District 742. My older two are college graduates, my youngest is a fifth-grader in the Clearview Spanish Immersion Program, and my eighth-grader is in the Immersion Program at South Junior High.
My family’s life has been impacted positively by the professionalism and personal attention of District 742 teachers. And as a former classroom teacher (in NM, NY, and SD) and a history professor at St. Cloud State University, I have collaborated with teachers and school staff over many years at Lincoln, Clearview, South, and Tech High School. I have taught in district classrooms and run multi-session workshops for central Minnesota teachers. I want to maintain those connections and take on a new role working with the larger district by joining the school board.
I am a product of a public-school education and believe strongly in the importance of a rich educational experience for the youth of our community. Our children are growing up in challenging times, and need the experiences, knowledge, critical-thinking skills, and human relationships to help them imagine and realize their own future. With committed teachers, approachable mentors, and quality educational programs they will be the next generation to enrich our community.
My years as a history professor, researcher, and writer have made me appreciate and celebrate a broad range of human experiences.
History includes stories from a mixture of people with long ties to places and families new to those places. As our community increasingly reflects the diversity of our state and nation, our schools prepare our students to work with a diverse array of people. New students from across Minnesota and the world bring a richness of experiences to help us all gain a sense of our cultural awareness and common humanity.
We need to be a school district that continues to work with our children to best prepare them to support their families, enhance area businesses and institutions, and contribute to a healthy central Minnesota. I want to be part of that, and I ask for your support in my campaign for school board. Please let me know if you’d like to host a lawn sign, join me in door knocking, and/or meet to discuss your concerns and ideas about how our schools contribute to our community.
